In the third and final article in the series of funding opportunities available for artists and arts organizations, we will explore entities in the private sector who can potentially fund your artistic venture.

Private Sector Arts Funding Organizations

Commercial Banks and Corporations

In Canada, some of the larger banks try to distinguish themselves as community contributors by funding art projects and initiatives. In the past, RBC, TD and ATB Bank have partnered with some of the government organizations mentioned in the first article to give additional grants, sponsorships and awards. Reading the bank’s website from time-to-time is a good way to stay alert about upcoming art project competitions, particularly art projects that are considered to add value to the larger community. The winner will receive an award to finance their art project and will also benefit from the marketing campaign exposure of these large entities.

It is not only banks who may be involved in arts funding. Other large corporations can be involved too, such as, Tim Hortons. The important point is that as an artist, you have to do your research and remain alert. Having a good network and working relationship with key players like your local bank manager will help too.

CrowdFunding

With the creation of the internet, it has enabled a person to launch crowdfunding campaigns. If you are technologically savvy or know some good friends who can do computer coding, you can launch a crowdfunding campaign to fund your artistic vision. Crowdfunding might have been used by startups as a way for them to launch their profit-making business, however in 2025, almost anybody can crowdfund provided that they have a great cause. With crowdfunding, you are not limited to your own regional area, it is technically possible to get funding from people in other parts of the world too. They need to love your idea and resonate with it. Also check with your banks and I.T. experts what the best crowdfunding platforms are. Some of them may have reasonable fees for their service.
